The new Polymer Optics Limited (POL) Linear Optic product – part number 210, has been developed for the LUXEON® Rebel LED to provide high light collection efficiency of >80% and a well defined lin-ear beam profile of 30 degree total beam angle in the narrow axis for a wide range of applications.

The result of considerable design and process development, POL have succeeded in producing a linear optic profile which can be easily assembled into an extruded luminaire housing. This unique linear optic design allows complete design flexibility in the number of LEDs used and their spacings along the length of the luminaire. In this way, it can be used with white; single colours; or groupings of LEDs in RGB, RBGA, RGBW or other combinations with good colour mixing. The colour mixing performance has been improved by a subtle diffuse surface finish applied to the Linear Optic exit surface. This also provides improved tolerance to LED placement accuracy relative to the optic pro-file within the luminaire assembly.

The compact POL 210 Linear Optic design, allows easy low cost assembly into an extruded alumin-ium housing/heat-sink profile, or similar, to enable small profile linear luminaires to be created. Con-siderable assembly cost savings are made, by removing the need for conventional assembly and glu-ing of individual optics onto each LED and will provide the front window to the luminaire product.

This makes the POL 210 Linear Optic product ideal for a wide range of linear luminaire applications such as: wall washing; architectural feature illumination; fluorescent strip light replacements; under-cupboard lighting; walkway and stair-lip illumination and display backlight edge illumination light coupling.

Precision manufactured in optical grade Polycarbonate for thermal stability and system durability, the 210 Linear Optic is supplied with a front surface low-tack tape protection layer which improves the product handling during both shipment and product assembly and is easily removed before in-stallation. These materials comply with RoHS requirements.

Supplied in a standard length of 1200mm, the product is supplied in standard packs of 10 pieces in lay flat polyethylene bags (Part # 210-10pkt) or 100 pieces layer packed in a heavy gauge, re-cycleable cardboard box (Part No. 210-100pkt). Alternative lengths are accommodated by easily cutting the op-tic to the required length to suit the luminaire housing length. Also, longer length can be made by as-sembling the standard lengths end to end in the luminaire housing, but it is recommended that an expansion gap is provided at each joint and these are sealed with a flexible sealant/adhesive, to ac-commodate any differences in thermal expansion between the Linear Optic and the housing material.
