    What is QLED

QLED is a powerful design and simulation software tool that allows lighting designers and engineers to perform real time thermal simulations of solid state lighting systems using LUXEON® high power LEDs. This is the only available thermal simulation software that includes accurate LED models.

Thermal management is critically important in any solid state lighting application, since the junction temperature greatly affects LED light output and lifetime. QLED minimizes the number of design cycles, reduces development costs and decreases time to market by eliminating the traditional trial-and-error approach to thermal design.

The software guides users through step-by-step design wizards to select, place and simulate power LEDs mounted on FR-4 boards or MCPCBs. Additionally, users can seamlessly integrate thermal vias, heat sinks, and fans to generate the most accurate transient or steady state thermal simulations.

Customers can literally develop, simulate and optimize thermal designs in minutes with QLED instead of requiring days or weeks from a thermal design engineer using significantly more complex and expensive software tools. QLED will revolutionize how the solid state lighting industry develops new products.

An online tutorial was developed to familiarize the user with certain fundamental functions in QLED. The tutorial will go through all the steps of modeling and simulating a basic LED assembly.

    Key Features

    • Capable of full system analysis, with multiple components such as heat sinks, fans, and openings allowed in a cabinet.
    • Unique positioning and sizing system, based on novel dynamic relative coordinate systems which allows for simple but powerful parameterized designs.
    • Fully automatic meshing, with optional fine-grained user control for specific components.
    • Powerful, yet easy to use design optimizer, with support for multiple variables and constraints, allows you to find optimum designs in minutes.
    • Contact resistance modeling.
    • Non-linear fan curves.
    • Complex heat sink devices, including water cooled heat sinks.
    • Surface to surface radiation for enclosed fixtures

    Key Advantages

    • Simulation results are generating in just a few minutes and include LED junction temperature, forward voltage and luminous flux
    • Software offers a multitude of step-by-step design wizards for all the standard types of components typically used in electronics design.
    • Users can access and share re-usable components, assemblies, and even whole models.
    • Automatic calculations are performed for radiation heat transfer.
    • Several simulation modes to replicate LEDs driving conditions (i.e constant current or pulsing mode)
